Guardianship for those living alone

How do we decide the fate of another?
The Age: 5 September 2009
Mary who has Alzheimer's disease and lives alone and has no close relatives, gets by with the help from Meals on Wheels and her neighbours. However following admission to hospital and deteriorating health, Mary's doctor makes a guardianship application. The Public Advocate is appointed as Mary's guardian, removing Mary's right to decide where, and with whom, she lives. > read story
